This might seem like a no-brainer but it took me a while to figure this out...so it might save you time...especially if your a Linux/Cedega n00b

if you have native support for multiple streams on your sound card or using dmix here's an easy way to setup your games to let you use rhythmbox or xmms...whatever...

1) In Ubuntu... goto terminal and type
~$ gstreamer-properties

then set your default sound devices to ALSA, if its already ALSA don't worry about it

2) In cedega goto Edit> global settings. Then in the audio tab, change your driver to ALSA...uncheck the MMAP checkbox and change the values for each field from "hw" to "default"

click on "apply" and "okay"

3) right-click on your game shortcut and choose "edit settings for this shortcut" and click on the audio tab; then:

---uncheck MMAP check box
---change the values in the two fields from "hw" to "default"
---click on apply and okay

This will change your configuration file: {user]/.cedega/configuration_files/cedega_6.0

Note: if your are using different Cedega engines for different games you will have to do step 2 for each cedega engine version in Edit> global settings in order to replace the conf file for that version of the engine.

After this you will be able to use rhythmbox, teamspeak, xmms while you game...I can rock out to the Cure and play COH at the same time...yay!

Peace out

Didn't know this was even possible. Love my Cedega even more now.
Can play CoH and listen to my tunes....

Worked great on Sabayon (Gentoo) based system.

Made this change just now myself, sound in WoW went very bad, broken up, lagged and all other manner of evil you can think of, re-enabled the MMAP though and its all hunky dory and mplayer worked just dandy with WoW running still (it used to bitch and moan about not getting an audio thingie)

Thank you for the tip, and hope the MMAP thing helps someone else.

unfortunatly ALSA suck and I get a lot of static like on a cd player with a small rift in the cd.

Solution to get decent sound in my games is to use oss. however then I am back at not being able to play music while gaming. anyone know a workaround so I can use oss and be able to multitask? :D
