Sins of a Solar Empire

Stardock, the publishers of Sins of a Solar Empire, are only releasing patches for this game through the Impulse Digital Distribution Platform. Impulse was implemented using .Net which is not currently supported under Cedega and, as such, fails to run. Until such a time as Stardock releases a stand-alone patch or the Cedega Development Team can support Impulse, Sins of a Solar Empire cannot be patched using Cedega and is being de-Certified. As soon as a method of patching is available we will return this game to Certified status.

You can patch this game in Windows and copy the files to Linux and Sins will work just fine.

This has been resolved with Cedega 7.1 and is no longer a problem

With the latest round of Nvidia 180 drivers players of Sins of a Solar Empire are treated to a badly displayed mouse cursor.

By default, the newer NVIdia drivers disable shared memory pixmaps. Not having that support causes an issue in Cedega under some circumstances. The workaround is to add this to the device section of the xorg.conf file:

Option "AllowSHMPixmaps" "1"

This option has a chance of negating some of the 2D performance improvements in the Nvidia 180 drivers but this has not yet been confirmed.

This game should be installed in Windows XP mode.

The installer should be run in desktop mode. In desktop mode, the final screen of the installer may be hidden under another window. If stuck at a black window, be sure to check for another window beneath it.

The shortcut created by the installer will not start due to missing XML libraries. To work around this, change the shortcut to point to 'Sins of a Solar Empire.exe' instead of 'SINS_Launcher.exe'. This can also be resolved by installing the 1.05 patch.
