Choosing and Installing Your Package
RPM - Red Hat, Fedora, SuSE, Mandrake
DEB - Debian, Ubuntu, Knoppix, Mepis, Lindows
Core requirements:
Linux Kernel 2.4 or higher
XFree86 >= 4.0 (4.3 recommended) or Xorg
glibc >= 2.2
The recommended hardware is:
Each game has its own requirements. Be sure to meet the recommended game hardware. We suggest exceeding the recommendations for optimal game performance. Please refer to the documentation included with the game for details.
Space for games, plus 60 MB free for Cedega.
Please see below for video card recommendations.
Due to superior Linux driver support, TransGaming recommends using an NVIDIA GeForce class video card. Pixel Shaders are only available on NVIDIA FX class cards and above. Shader Model 2.0 is only available on a GeForce 5X00 and above, however, TransGaming recommends enabling these options only on a 6X00 or above for best performance.
Cedega also works with ATI Radeon 8500 or better cards using the proprietary drivers available from ATI. Please note that the ATI drivers may have bugs or be missing features in some core functionality and may cause errors, graphical anomalies or the game to simply not work with Cedega.
Other on-board video cards such as Intel (example: Intel 945GM) and S3 video cards are not supported -- they may run some games through Cedega, though most will not run or may crash due to bugs or missing functionality in the drivers. As a result, we are unable to offer official support beyond ATI/NVIDIA due to these limitations in Linux driver support.
Older cards such as the TNT, TNT2, Radeon 7500, Rage Pro, Voodoo, Matrox or similar cards are not recommended for use with Cedega.
Remember; the better your video card, the better your gaming experience.

On installation, a Starter Kit will install program shortcuts and installation configuration files. On first launch, via the Start Menu shortcut or command line (by running 'cedega' in terminal window), the Starter Kit will download and install all necessary files for Cedega. If you do not have enough space under /tmp but enough free space in a different location (i.e. /mnt/bigdisk/scratch) you will need to do the following in a terminal window:
$ export TMPDIR=/mnt/bigdisk/scratch
$ cedega
The cedega GUI
will then put all temporary downloaded files in the
/mnt/bigdisk/scratch.
Note that this will not
affect the usage of the /tmp/tg- folder which is made available by
the Cedega engine to windows applications as the canonical "windows"
temporary folder

Installing a game is easy, and requires only a few easy steps. Insert the game disc and press the install button to start the process. If the game is a supported title, click the Detect Game Disc button and optimal settings will be used – alternatively, if the disc is not detected, you may manually select the entry in the GDDB dropdown. For unsupported games enter the Game Folder name and browse for the installer executable (usually setup.exe or install.exe) from the game disc. Click continue and follow the installation instructions that came with the game you are installing.
Updating a game or installing an expansion pack can be just as easy. Open the installation dialog and select the Game Folder of the original game, use the browse button to select the installer executable and click continue. Follow the installation instructions for the update/expansion.
To play a game select the Game Folder and Shortcut then click the Play button.
To remove an installed game select the game folder and select Tools -> Game Folders -> Delete
Game settings are applied using a layered method. Settings come from a combination of three layers: the Global Settings, a GDDB file and any per-shortcut settings that may be applied.
Cedega options can be modified using Edit -> Global Settings. Settings are applied to all games played unless overridden by the GDDB or using the per shortcut settings.
Supported games have a games disc database entry that include the best known settings for both installation and playing. The GDDB settings are applied on top of the global settings and take precedence. GDDB settings can be disabled by selecting None in the GDDB field in the installation dialog or the shortcut properties dialog.
Per shortcut settings can be modified by right clicking the shortcut and selecting "Edit Settings for this Shortcut" or through the shortcut properties dialog (Edit Settings). The shortcut settings are applied on top of both the GDDB and global settings and override all other settings.
TransGamer Account Settings
TransGamer account settings can be modified by clicking the “TransGaming” menu option and clicking on “TransGamer Account”.

Cedega has its own set of discussion forums to allow TransGamers to communicate about everything Cedega and more. The log into the Cedega forums use your TransGamer account information, this is the same username and password you use to access the download section. The Cedega forums can be found at www.cedega.com/forums. Note that TransGaming staff members are not notified of posts and may not respond to posts on the forums.
TransGaming also uses an IRC channel on the FreeNode network that is meant for unofficial interactive support both from other TransGamers and TransGaming Technologies staff members. Before asking a question in the channel it is smart to first read the topic of the channel. When asking a question be as descriptive as possible -- something that is blindly obvious to you might not be so for other people.
To join the IRC channel an IRC client (such as IRSSI or Xchat) is needed. Connect to the FreeNode network at irc.freenode.net and join the #cedega channel. More information about the FreeNode network and its servers can be found at www.freenode.net
To obtain direct support for Cedega, TransGaming uses an email system. When sending an email to TransGaming be sure to include as much information as possible. Without supplying detailed information the support process might take longer then necessary.
More information on emailing TransGaming Support is outlined online at http://www.cedega.com/support/
Please use the correct method for your inquiry, whether it is an Accounts issue or a Support request.
